Shop by impulse
Rocket motors are assigned a letter that equates to their total impulse. Each letter you increase doubles the total impulse from the letter before.
Do I have to use Estes motors in Estes rockets?
No, there are plenty of alternative motors that may work with your rocket. The best place to look is the Klima motors which come in 6 packs rather than 2 or 3 packs like the Estes motors. Klima also do a 18mm D motor which can push your Estes 18mm C rockets even higher. You may also be able to use other 18 and 24mm motors in Estes models too.
What do the letters mean on rocket motors?
The letter on a rocket motors indicates the range of total impulse the motors has. Everytime a letter goes up by one the impulse range doubles. So if you go up two letters you have 4x the impulse, and three letters 8x the impulse.

For example, an A motor has between 1.26 and 2.50 Ns of total impulse, a B motor has between 2.51 and 5.00, and a D motor would have between 10.01 and 20 Ns.
Do I need to buy igniters?
Rocket motors that we sell come with igniters included. It's always nice to have a few spares though in case you have an igniter fail. That being said the TSP motor igniters can be tricky to fire so you might want to consider getting some Klima igniters for your TSP motors.
