Nano V1 tiny 50Hz altimeter, just 1.35 grams 19mm x 10mm, flight logging model rocket altimeter
The Nano altimeter is a small ultra lightweight altimeter. It has a highly accurate barometric pressure sensor that logs your altitude (and pressure) at 50 samples per second.
If you're after something ultra small and lightweight then the Nano is just the altimeter for you!
If you need programmable rules as well as an accelerometer, gyroscope and tilt angles and you have space, our Mercury Altimeter is also quite small for the next step up.
The Nano has an onboard battery and automatically charges itself from the built in USB port. So, despite it's tiny size you don't need to worry about needing a special reader or cable. Just plug in to your PC, laptop, tablet or phone and access your flight logs and device settings as a standard USB storage device.
It also has a SHA-256 hash key in the flight log. This will verify your flight logs as unedited and genuine when you upload your flight log.
We use a standard accurate formula to calculate the altitude from the pressure readings. You can change the sea level forecast pressure and the fixed ambient launch temperature if you wish to give the most accurate conversions.
Altitudes are calculated with double(64-bit) calculations to preserve the maximum accuracy.
It also shows if the device is blank or has pre-existing flight logs in the memory.
Finally it will inform you if your battery level is below 50% and below 30% with a final colour flash.
This feature is great for both peace of mind and competition use to verify the device's configuration.
We also use high end tiny surface mounted components.
The 32-bit microcontroller runs up to 240Mhz although our firmware runs at 80Mhz for power efficiency.
The onboard battery charger makes life easy, just plug your device into a USB cable to charge it. The charging LED will turn off when it's fully charged.
You can fine tune these filters, should you choose, in the device settings.
The Nano can be programmed yourself using Arduino IDE or ESP IDF applications. Some example Arduino IDE code is included in the manual to get you started.
What's more, you can always put our firmware back on in just a few mouse clicks using our web based firmware tool on the Altimeter Cloud when you want to use the altimeter as intended again.
Always check where you are flying allows custom flight computers if you're intending to do this of course!
Under normal use the Nano will save your flight log after your flight from the RAM at maximum speed.
Should your device fail for any reason before the flight log is saved, the Nano will recover your flight log up to the point of failure from the flash buffer when it is next turned on.
Note: The flash buffer stores up to 35,000 samples. Almost 12 minutes at maximum logging speed of 50Hz.
Our altimeter uses a dynamic pressure sample as the launch pressure, rather than the one that was present when it was turned on. This means that changes in atmospheric pressure while you wait will not affect the altimeters accuracy during flight.
Also as it works as a USB storage device, all you need to do is plug it into a PC or smart phone to view the flight logs.
The header of a flight log includes summary data such as the apogee and apogee time.
