Description

UK ROC starter kit (although of course you can buy and enjoy it not as part of the UK ROC competition too!)

This kit focuses primarily on using Klima 50 and 75mm airframe tube. This is a bit stronger than your typical Estes BT tube which is a nice bonus. It also includes a 5x18mm motor mount and we're throwing in 2 of our 18mm motor blanks too so you can fly on 3, 4 or 5 motor clusters with this mount.

Everything you need (bar any accessories / altimeters / motors and the odd thing you may need depending on your design) is included to design and build a suitable rocket for UK ROC 2024.

Included parts:
1x 50mm Klima nose cone in black. 53.3g weight.
2x 50mm Klima air frame tubes 500mm long each. 43.6g weight.
1x 75mm Klima air frame tube with 4 laser cut slots for fins 500mm long. 112.3g weight.
1x 75mm Klima air frame tube with no slots 500mm long. 117.5g weight.
1x Modelrockets.co.uk 50mm to 75mm Klima tube transition adapter. (High temperature carbon nylon). 59.9g weight.
  1x 50mm Klima coupler 100mm long. 7.2g weight.
  1x 75mm Klima coupler 120mm long.  24.8g weight.
1x Modelrockets.co.uk carbon nylon anchor for 75mm Klima tube with eye bolt. 18.8g weight.
1x 5x18mm Klima motor mount for 75mm Klima tube. 43.9g weight.
5m of Kevlar shock cord  7g weight.
1x bulkhead for 50mm klima tube. 4.2g weight.
1x Launch lug pack. Weight depends on size choice but won't be a lot.
1x Pair of 1010 launch rail buttons and screws. 6.7g (with bolts and nuts worse case weight).
1x 12" build your own nylon parachute. 8g weight.
1x 18" build your own nylon parachute. 18.1g weight.
1x 24" build your own nylon parachute. 29.1g weight.
  1x 236ml Gorilla wood glue.
  1x 25ml (2x 12.5) Gorilla 5 minute epoxy.
3x A4 size sheet of 3mm plywood (lightweight type). 115g per sheet.
2x 18mm motor blanks. Nylon. Can be used to run either 3, 4 or 5 motors in your motor mount.

AIR FRAME
We've included 4 sections of air frame, each is 500mm in length, and two couplers (One 75mm and one 50mm). There is a 75mm air frame with 4 slots included ready to mount your fins. You probably won't need to use all of this air frame but it's there if you do at least.

TRANSITION
UK ROC 2024 requires you to use two tube sizes. The 75mm lower section and 50mm upper section meet these requirements. We've created a transition adapter for you to use in this kit. It is made from carbon reinforced Nylon with a working temperature up to 184 degrees Celsius. It's really tough and well up to the job. It's probably best to use epoxy (supplied) rather than wood glue to install this on your tubes.

MOTOR MOUNT
We've included Klima's 5x 18mm motor cluster mount. It's a well tested and decent motor mount for Klima's 75mm tube. You will be stuck using 18mm motors of course. Although there's nothing to stop you making your own 24mm or 29mm mount in this kit. We are planning to list more kits (which may already be listed) for other motor sizes. Klima do offer D9 motors in 18mm size which offer full 20 Ns impulse. If you want to run on 3, 4 or 5 motors (5x C for example is an option) you can with this mount. We include 2x 18mm motor blanks to block of tubes you're not using.

SHOCK ANCHOR
We've also created a shock cord anchor to fit 75mm Klima tube that we've included in the kit. It comes with a galvanised steel eye bolt too. You should be fine gluing this in (ideally epoxy) on it's own. But if you want to ensure some extra strength you can always glue a section of the 75mm coupler above it in your rocket too. Like the transition, this is also made from carbon reinforced nylon.

PARACHUTES
Our parachutes will typically be build your own from LOC. These will be Nylon which is much tougher wearing for repeated launches than your typical Estes plastic parachute. We only sell what we have in stock and pre-pack the kits ready to go. However, we may make kits with pre-made nylon parachutes if stock runs out. We've included three sizes so you can fine tune your design to hit the targets of the competition.

LAUNCH LUGS / RAIL BUTTONS

We've included an Estes launch lug pack that offers all sorts of options for different rod sizes for your rocket. We've also put in two x 1010 rail buttons. These can be installed to launch on a more rigid launch paid using standard 1010 rail. (6.5mm slot size). If required we can swap this out for Klima buttons but this may delay your order shipping by a day. Please put your request in the order notes if you want this done. The Klima buttons fit a 5mm slot rail, and we also sell the Klima rail on the website if required.

BULKHEAD / PAYLOAD

The most sensible route for your payload is probably to create a payload section in the top of the rocket. We've included a bulkhead for 50mm Klima tube. This will allow you with the 50mm coupler to create a payload section for your egg's safe travels. This payload section with the nosecone attached should pop off with the parachute below. Of course there are plenty of other plans for you to think of.

PLYWOOD SHEETS

We've put 3x A4 sized sheets of 3mm thick plywood in the pack. This has a poplar core which is nice and light and birch layers on the top and bottom. It's a reasonably tough but light weight plywood. The supplier says it's laser cut-able rated too. Great for centering rings and fins on your rocket.
